In Buddhist Ullambana Festival, he is being represented on the altar by a scroll painting or statue. Who is he?<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cKing of Ghosts\u201d is known to Buddhists as \u201cLord of the Flaming Face\u201d (\u9762\u71c3\u5927\u58eb) or \u201cKing of Pretas\u201d where preta means \u201chungry ghosts\u201d in Sanskrit. Although the King of Pretas is fearsome in appearance, he is actually one of the manifestations of Guanyin Bodhisattva. In the Lotus Sutra, Buddha expounded that Guanyin will take whatever form necessary to bring salvation to beings, thus Guanyin manifested the \u201cKing of Pretas\u201d to liberate beings born in the ghost realm.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cLord of the Flaming Face\u201d or \u201cKing of Pretas \u201d first appeared in the \u2018Dharani Sutra for Bringing Salvation to the Hungry Ghosts with Burning Mouths\u2019\u300a\u6551\u62d4\u997f\u9b3c\u9640\u7f57\u5c3c\u7ecf\u300b, translated into Chinese by Amoghavajra (705-774) in Tang dynasty. In this scripture, Ananda, one of Buddha\u2019s principle disciples, was meditating in the woods, when the King of Pretas appeared before him with fire burning in his mouth. The King of Pretas was manifested by Guanyin Bodhisattva. He told Ananda that he would soon die and be reborn as a hungry ghost. Horrified, Ananda went to the Buddha to ask how he could avert this fate. Buddha told Ananda the importance of practicing generosity and taught him mantras and food charity practices to spirits that would ease the suffering of the hungry ghosts. These practices became essential components of the Ullambana rituals we see today. It stands to reason then, that during the lunar seventh month, Buddhist invoke the presence of the King of Pretas whenever there is a salvation ritual conducted for the hungry ghosts. Portrayals of the King of Pretas usually have a small image of a peaceful Guanyin on the crown to indicate his original form.<\/p>\n<p>Despite his wrathful appearance, King of Pretas is compassionate at heart. Guanyin bodhisattva takes the form of the King of Pretas as this is the form that will enable him to subdue the stubborn and restless ghosts, who are most likely to take advice from a more powerful ghost. His form as a hungry ghost also reminds us to eliminate the causes of rebirth in the lower realms, by subduing the three poisons (greed, anger and ignorance) through diligence in our practice. The Chinese believe that praying to the King of Pretas at the ritual site would help to maintain proper order of the spirits that came for the feast and prayers. To common folks, it is especially important to pray to this form of Guanyin for protection from illnesses, bad luck and spirit harm.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">\u4e03\u6708\u62dc\u7684 \u201c\u5927\u58eb\u7237\u201d \u6216 \u201c\u9b3c\u738b\u201d \u5176\u5b9e\u662f\u89c2\u97f3\u83e9\u8428\uff1f<\/h3>\n<p>\u4ee5\u4e0b\u4ecb\u7ecd\u201c\u9762\u71c3\u5927\u58eb\u201d\u7684\u7531\u6765\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u519c\u5386\u4e03\u6708\u671f\u95f4\uff0c\u4f60\u6216\u8bb8\u4f1a\u53d1\u73b0\u5404\u4e2a\u4e2d\u5143\u4f1a\u7684\u573a\u5730\u90fd\u4f1a\u4f9b\u5949\u4e00\u5c0a\u5de8\u5927\u5a01\u731b\u7684\u201c\u9b3c\u738b\u201d\u7eb8\u672d\u50cf\u3002\u5728\u4f5b\u6559\u7684\u76c2\u5170\u6cd5\u4f1a\u4e2d\uff0c\u4e5f\u4f1a\u4f9b\u5949\u4ed6\u7684\u753b\u50cf\u6216\u91d1\u8eab\u3002\u8fd9\u5c0a\u201c\u9b3c\u738b\u201d\u7a76\u7adf\u662f\u8c01\uff1f\u4eba\u4eec\u4e3a\u4ec0\u4e48\u5411\u201c\u9b3c\u738b\u201d\u7948\u798f\u5462\uff1f<\/p>\n<p>\u4eba\u4eec\u4fd7\u79f0\u7684 \u201c\u9b3c\u738b\u201d \u6216 \u201c\u5927\u58eb\u7237\u201d \u5728\u4f5b\u6559\u91cc\u79f0\u4e3a \u201c\u9762\u71c3\u5927\u58eb\u201d \u6216 \u201c\u7126\u9762\u5927\u58eb\u201d\u3002\u201c\u9762\u71c3\u5927\u58eb\u201d \u867d\u7136\u663e\u7684\u662f\u997f\u9b3c\u7684\u5f62\u8c61\uff0c\u5176\u5b9e\u662f\u6148\u60b2\u89c2\u97f3\u83e9\u8428\u7684\u5316\u8eab\u3002\u5728\u300a\u666e\u95e8\u54c1\u300b\u4e2d\uff0c\u4f5b\u9640\u8bb2\u5230\u89c2\u97f3\u83e9\u8428\u4f1a\u6839\u636e\u4e0d\u540c\u4f17\u751f\u7684\u9700\u8981\uff0c\u5316\u8eab\u4e3a\u5404\u79cd\u4e0d\u540c\u5f62\u8c61\u65bd\u4e0e\u6551\u5ea6\uff0c\u800c\u9762\u71c3\u5927\u58eb\u5c31\u662f\u89c2\u97f3\u83e9\u8428\u4e3a\u4e86\u5ea6\u5316\u997f\u9b3c\u9053\u4f17\u751f\u800c\u663e\u7684\u5f62\u8c61\u3002 \u201c\u9762\u71c3\u5927\u58eb\u201d \u7684\u5178\u6545\uff0c\u8bb0\u8f7d\u4e8e\u300a\u6551\u62d4\u997f\u9b3c\u9640\u7f57\u5c3c\u7ecf\u300b\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u4e00\u65e5\uff0c\u91ca\u8fe6\u5982\u6765\u5728\u8fe6\u6bd7\u7f57\u536b\u56fd\u7684\u50e7\u4f3d\u84dd\u6240\u4e3a\u5927\u4f17\u8bf4\u6cd5\uff0c\u540c\u65f6\uff0c\u963f\u96be\u5c0a\u8005\u5bc2\u9759\u7684\u6797\u4e2d\u4fee\u7985\u5b9a\u3002\u963f\u96be\u5c0a\u8005\u4fee\u5230\u4e86\u4e09\u66f4\u4e4b\u540e\uff0c\u89c2\u97f3\u83e9\u8428\u5316\u4f5c\u4e86\u4e00\u4f4d\u997f\u9b3c\u7684\u6837\u5b50\uff0c\u6765\u5230\u963f\u96be\u9762\u524d\u3002\u201c\u997f\u9b3c\u201d \u9762\u8c8c\u4e11\u964b\uff0c\u5934\u53d1\u6563\u4e71\uff0c\u8179\u5927\u5982\u5c71\uff0c\u54bd\u5589\u5982\u9488\u7f1d\u4e00\u6837\u7ec6\u5c0f\uff0c\u9762\u90e8\u4e0a\u4e0d\u505c\u5730\u55b7\u706b\uff0c\u963f\u96be\u5c0a\u8005\u89c1\u5230\u540e\u5927\u5403\u4e00\u60ca\uff0c\u95ee\u5b83\u662f\u4ec0\u4e48\u6837\u7684\u56e0\u679c\u5bfc\u81f4\u5b83\u5f97\u6b64\u79cd\u8eab\u5f62\u3002\u201c\u997f\u9b3c\u201d \u8bf4\uff0c\u4ed6\u7684\u540d\u5b57\u53eb\u9762\u71c3\uff0c\u56e0\u4e3a\u751f\u524d\u4e3a\u4eba\u541d\u556c\uff0c\u8d2a\u5a6a\u5e76\u4e14\u4e0d\u77e5\u8db3\uff0c\u6240\u4ee5\u6b7b\u540e\u5815\u5165\u997f\u9b3c\u9053\uff0c\u906d\u53d7\u79cd\u79cd\u75db\u82e6\u3002\u201c\u997f\u9b3c\u201d \u53c8\u544a\u8bc9\u963f\u96be\u8bf4\uff0c\u4ed6\u5c06\u5728\u4e09\u5929\u4e4b\u540e\u6b7b\u53bb\uff0c\u6b7b\u540e\u4e5f\u4f1a\u751f\u5728\u997f\u9b3c\u9053\u4e2d\u3002\u963f\u96be\u542c\u540e\u5927\u60ca\u5931\u8272\uff0c\u6025\u5fd9\u8dd1\u5230\u91ca\u8fe6\u5982\u6765\u5904\u54c0\u6c42\u6551\u8131\u7684\u65b9\u6cd5\u3002\u4f5b\u9640\u4e8e\u662f\u4e3a\u4ed6\u8bf4\u300a\u7130\u53e3\u7ecf\u300b\uff0c\u6559\u5bfc\u4ed6\u5411\u997f\u9b3c\u5e03\u65bd\u98df\u7269\u7684\u65b9\u6cd5\u3002\u7ecf\u4e2d\u8bb0\u8f7d\u7684\u65bd\u98df\u6cd5\uff0c\u5982\u4eca\u4e5f\u6210\u4e3a\u4e86\u4f5b\u6559\u5bfa\u9662\u4e2d\u76c2\u5170\u80dc\u4f1a\u7684\u91cd\u8981\u5185\u5bb9\u4e4b\u4e00\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u8fd9\u4e5f\u5c31\u662f\u4e3a\u4ec0\u4e48\uff0c\u65e0\u8bba\u662f\u4f5b\u6559\u7684\u76c2\u5170\u80dc\u4f1a\u9053\u573a\uff0c\u6216\u6c11\u95f4\u6551\u6d4e\u997f\u9b3c\u7684\u6cd5\u4e8b\uff0c\u4e00\u5b9a\u4f1a\u5b89\u5949\u201c\u9762\u71c3\u5927\u58eb\u201d\u6216 \u6c11\u95f4\u76f8\u4fe1\uff0c\u5728\u6551\u5ea6\u997f\u9b3c\u7684\u6cd5\u4f1a\u9053\u573a\u4f9b\u5949 \u201c\u9762\u71c3\u5927\u58eb\u201d
