Pocky’s early life was far from the happy beginning every puppy deserves. She was adopted as a young pup, but when her adopters realised that having a dog meant daily walks, toilet training, and behaviour shaping, Pocky was banished to a cage—where she spent the next two years of her life.
Deprived of exercise, stimulation, and companionship, Pocky developed pent-up frustration and began barking excessively. Instead of addressing the cause, her barking was met with punishment, including being kicked in her cage. This traumatic past left lasting effects, and even today, we’re still helping Pocky work through some of her behaviour challenges—especially around food.
Despite all she’s been through, Pocky’s spirit hasn’t dimmed. She absolutely loves her walks, especially when she gets to trot on grass—perhaps because it smells like freedom to her. And at 12 years old, she finally got her lucky break: one of our long-term volunteers brought her home to foster, so she can live out her golden years in peace and comfort.
Pocky is now safe, loved, and cared for. She remains on long-term urinary medication due to a tendency to develop UTIs, but she’s doing well and enjoying the comforts of home.
We’re grateful that Pocky’s story took a brighter turn—and to those who never gave up on her.
